The Quarry Project Update

On July 3rd, Leslie and I gave a fresh coat of paint to the white set elements. Here they are drying - parts of the house resting on the chairs. So interesting.

As we have been painting both set and stages, Henry John and a small group of volunteers have put the World together, repairing and replacing pieces of plywood that had not survived the three winters of storage outside. They installed a new cable after the other one broke due to ice and winter wear. Just this past weekend, they built the Audience Platform from a design of Henry’s.

In the beginning of 2019, Henry answered a post for an internship through UVM’s School of Engineering. He jumped in with both feet and has been an amazing fit. Now he is the Technical Director, creating the "theatre" that has no blueprint, using his Mechanical Engineering & artistic training, problem solving & carpentry skills to invent the underpinnings of this piece. An excellent collaborator and team leader, his excitement about what he is creating buoys those who are working alongside. You will also see him during performance when he becomes the leader of the Running Crew that manages the movement of stages. His steady confidence has been a gift to me as I juggle all the details.

  • We need just a few more volunteers to make things run smoothly. Here is where you can go to sign up and get more information.

  • Lukas Huffman will screen his two Quarry Project films from 2020 & 2021 at Christ Church on State Street in Montpelier Friday July 8th at 8:30, outside in the courtyard. Come join us!

  • Today, Julia’s photographs were hung at the Kellogg Hubbard Library in Montpelier where they will be on exhibit for the month of July. Stop by. They are beautiful.

  • This week, the stages will be fully completed and the set elements installed, ready for our rehearsals on the water this month.

  • In just one month we will begin our run of August performances.

You will hear from me again at the end of this month and then see me in August.
