The Quarry Project Update

We have been in the quarry over the past 6 weeks creating the theatre in preparation for our three dress rehearsals, which we just completed with full houses. I watched from a different location each evening, delighted at how the piece has shaped up and how skillful the ensemble and crew are at problem-solving on the fly.

On August 5th we begin our performance run. Currently, we are sold out but encourage those of you who have not gotten a ticket to sign up asap at the wait list as you might just be in luck. quarryprojectvt@gmail.com

Here is a photo of Leslie and me at the end of a long day working on creating the “lobby." It was taken by Marcy Kass who, with Leslie, created the Audience Response books and The Great Wall of Thanks. She joins the more than 300 who have contributed to making this project happen.

Here are Georgia Phillips and Phoebe Gregory, childhood friends, in Vermont for the summer from Wales, working tirelessly alongside the collaborators on numerous tasks. Phoebe has found her home in “front of house”, greeting people, dealing with the unexpected with grace and humor. Georgia likes the behind scenes and will be part of the Running Crew with Henry, helping to make all the moving parts run as smoothly as is possible during the performance.

Here is an additional image of Leslie watching as Georgia, in a lifevest, is swimming around the stages, painting any parts on the sides that need paint. It was hot that day so not that big a sacrifice for her.

You will not hear from me until the performances are over. I hope to see some of you on the Audience Platform and thank you for your interest in this kind of art.

In closing, I have an excerpt of a response sent to me by a person in Tuesday’s audience:

The sheer feeling of beauty that washed over everyone in the audience was palpable---
it was its own breeze.

In the same response was a quote from Paul Eluard that sums it up for this moment:

There is another world, but it is in this one.

Until later,
