The Quarry Project Afterlife Update
A year ago, we were in the Capitol City Grange, putting together what we called The Big Dance, the final ensemble dance of the piece. I remember bringing Daisy my dog to these rehearsals. We made an enclosure of the back door entryway for her. She could watch us through the slats of the baby gate. When it came time to do the “flocking” part of the dance, the group rushed to one corner, like in the photo above, and then to the corner where Daisy was. She would stand up and start barking, joining in the energy of the moment. It would make us all laugh.
Last May seems so far away yet so close. I continue to drive by the quarry on my way to places north of my home. Frequently, I stop and walk down the road to stand by the water. Sometimes there are ducks, sometimes the last remnants of winter’s ice under the far cliff, and this past time, pollen on the surface. All of us who were involved - ensemble or audience - are grateful for the opportunity to have been on the water of that magical place. It changed our lives.
Next Wednesday May 31st at 7pm, the Jaquith Library in Marshfield is hosting a screening of the Quarry Project film. Marshfield is the home town of Mary Bonhag, a member of the Quarry Project band and a singer extraordinary. In the photograph below, she is in the middle of the three vocalists. Please join us for the film and the conversation afterwards. The library has an intimate space so we ask that you sign up in advance. I hope to see you soon.
