The Quarry Project Update

As you may know, the dance and music world has been deeply affected by this pandemic. Our art is about closeness, about breath, about sharing weight, about touch, about being grounded in our bodies and unfettered in our responses. Part of the work ahead for all of us will be to address the obvious physical strain and trauma from holding back, holding our breath, restraining our instincts. In the light of all that has happened, we turn towards the power of creating something new from “nothing” and welcome this opportunity to shed old habits.

For the first time since we cancelled rehearsals, postponed performances, put a necessarily, cautious distance between us and found ways to connect differently, the full ensemble of The Quarry Project will soon be together again.

Next month, the entire ensemble will be meeting in-person, off-site for a few hours. In August, we will be in the quarry on a floating stage, discovering what has changed for each of us. We will carefully and thoughtfully find a new physical closeness.

This will be our final chance to experiment on the water, contributing ideas from this past year and our vast imaginations. Out of this time will come a stronger piece, shaped by these past sixteen months and our love for one another.
