The Quarry Project Update
November 2018

Since Labor Day weekend, when we wrapped up our 2018 Development time and left the quarry, we have settled into the tasks of bringing this project to its next level.

• A Project Coordinator is now on-board. Linda Waite Simpson is already taking over much of the administration, which allows me to focus on the long-range artistic vision.
• The rest of the ensemble is being gathered - most are from Chittenden Co and Central Vermont with two coming from out of state. The pull of this project is strong!
• We will start rehearsal/training in January. Every month, through June, scenes will be developed with specific dancers and once a month, all will come together for an ensemble training session.
• In August 2019, we return to the Wells Lamson for our second Development summer to pull together the concept and prepare for performances in 2020.

Leslie Anderson, long-time artistic collaborator (of costumes and sets), accepted the challenge to get behind the camera to capture this past summer’s work. With our Media Partner RETN supplying equipment and editing help, we went through all the footage and selected what was strong. She then compiled a dozen tiny films to be used with these communiques. Here is a link to one of them. The dancer is Alana Phinney. By our next newsletter, the full 20-minute film of this summer’s work, being created by Lukas Huffman in Brooklyn NY, will be complete and linked to the project website.

Early in the winter, the project will have a Technical Director who will join the existing technical team which consists of experts in engineering, design, building, flotation and general problem-solving. They are figuring out how to realize the infrastructure plan I have in mind.

By December, the 2019 budget will be determined. Suffice to say, if you are inspired by what you hear or see in this newsletter, tax-deductible donations to this utterly unique and exciting project can be made to Cradle to Grave Arts. Your gift and supportive partnership are integral to this creative endeavor.

Gratefully,
